 Confused, but not really
(2 comments)

Finally heard from Jessica last night.  She has been out in the field, so she had no way to contact us since she left for her training.  She called last night at almost 11 pm to tell me she missed me and to ask if she could bring a boy home with her.  I swear I have no idea what to do with this child!  I said yes.  His name is Justin, and he's from Albilene, TX, but he's stationed in California right now.  I guess there is a 5 day break in his orders, so Jessica and he decided that he would come and stay with us until he has to go to California.  She had mentioned this guy to me briefly when she was home on break, mostly saying that he liked her and she liked him, but the one guy she really liked at training was possessive and the guys were both posturing, and she ended up having a relationship with the other guy - not Justin.  She says when she went back to Texas after break, the guy she liked and had been with had gotten married to his ex-girlfriend, who had cheated on him while he was at Basic training (which is why she was his ex) but had somehow gotten pregnant with his baby before he left for AIT.  Whew!  Jessica said he seemed really apologetic and sorry, but she was just like, whatever - enjoy your drama, I want no part of it.

Riiiiiight.

So anyway, she now is seeing this Justin guy.  The only other thing she shared about him is that he joined the military because most of his friends were into drugs and getting in trouble, and he wanted to make sure his life didn't go that way.  That sounds good to me.  She also commented that his mom had already looked up ticket prices for him to come up here.  That made me pause for a minute - that poor mom!  I know I would be sad if Jessica stayed down there with a guy I didn't know and I didn't get to see her before she was deployed.  Guess that is part of them growing up.

I have no idea how much this guy means to Jessica, or if he's just a smokescreen she's using to make me think she is over Matt.  I never take anything she does at face value, because her relationships seem so quick and intense and then they are over.  I mean, this guy got barely a mention when she was home over break, but now, here he is coming to stay with us for 5 days because she can't bear to let him go any earlier.

The thing is, he might not even be staying here at our house - we haven't heard from Jessica's new landlord about her move-in date.  It could turn out that her apartment is ready when she gets back next Friday and she'll spend the weekend moving out, and then this guy will just crash at her place.

However, I got to thinking - if her apartment isn't ready, she starts school on the 25th, so that means this guy will be home all day with Cara and me, unless he hitches a ride with Dan in the mornings and waits for Jessica at the college while she is in class.  Oh well, I'm not going to stress about it.

All of this is getting me to thinking about having to do more shopping for Jessica's apartment.  So far I've just bought her a safe (which was her birthday gift request) and I spent about $40 at the dollar store, buying cleaning supplies and odds and ends for her kitchen and bathroom.   Oh!  That's right, I also bought her some other things when I purchased the safe - garbage cans, dish strainer, etc.  Gah!  I can't really remember because it was a couple of weeks ago.

Dan and I have started on a new diet.  We've been on it since last Saturday night - so far Dan has lost 6 pounds, but I haven't gotten on the scale yet to see where I'm at.  It's not a specific type of diet, just that we are counting calories, and keeping track of sodium and fat levels in everything we eat.  We joined an online website called calorie counter, which lets us log every single thing we put in our mouths, which has made the entire thing much easier.  We bought lots of fresh foods this week and so far things have been going well.  The website calculates that I need to eat 1500 calories or less a day to lose weight, and so far I've been successful at doing so.  Dan gets to eat 2500 calories. So not fair.  However, he hasn't really been close to that number at all yet, so I guess that is good.  It is REALLY hard to keep the sodium numbers down though - we struggle more with that than calories.
