 The End of Third Grade
(0 comments)

Well Marissa is officially out of third grade now. Gosh, I can't believe I have a 4th grader. That's insane. Marissa really enjoyed third grade. Looking back to the day they posted the class lists I wasn't so sure it would end this way. We decided the year before not to request a specific teacher. Instead we decided to pray about it and ask God to give her the perfect teacher for her. On the day we went to find out who her teacher would be she told me, "I'll be fine with anyone but Mr. Cameron." She had never had a male teacher before and just didn't like the idea at all. So we get there and lo and behold she's in Mr. Cameron's class.......and none of her friends are in there with her. She cried and cried. But then we talked to some people at church who had been in his class and they all just loved him so she was a little more comfortable going to school that first day. I believe it was the second or third day of school when I found a picture she had drawn and colored that said, "Mr. Cameron rocks!" So it didn't take long for her to fall in love with him. I'm so glad. She has really enjoyed being in his class. And he has assured me that he has thoroughly enjoyed having her in his class.

Third grade is a difficult year. It's the first year of TAKS testing. They have to work super super hard for that. If they don't pass the TAKS test they don't promote to fourth grade regardless of their averages. Marissa is super smart so I didn't worry too much, but I was a little concerned because she really seemed to be stressed out about passing. She did great though......passed both the reading and math. She missed one on the reading and two on the math. Both grades were commendable so I'm proud of her!!

Her grades this year have been outstanding! She made the A Honor Roll every six weeks. There were some six weeks that she was the only one in her class to do so. She makes her Mom proud!!

She had her awards ceremony this week. She won the reading award for her class, the superstar character award for her class, perfect attendance for the six weeks and perfect attendance for the entire year. She also got her 6th dog tag for the A Honor Roll to complete the perfect A Honor Roll necklace! She got 4th in overall AR points for the entire third grade with 140.6 points. The next closest person behind her had 103 points. The top 4 were pretty close. She's a good little reader. They just tested reading levels last week. She's now reading at 6.2 grade level. She could probably read at a higher level if she would challenge herself a little more, but she tends to be like me and simply read for enjoyment....not to increase her vocabulary or anything like that.

Track and Field Day was last week. She did great there too! She got first place in Jump Rope – Hot Pepper, Hula Hoop and the Long Jump. She got second place in Jump Rope – Marathon. She got third place in Basketball & the Three Legged Race. She participated in every single event.....even though some things were obviously not her thing. I was so proud of her for signing up for everything. I know it was out of her comfort zone a little, but she got out there and attempted everything!! Yay Rissa!!

This week she has also had a carnival and an end of the year party. It's been a fun week for her. Now it's all over. Marissa is such a sweet little soul. Every year she gets really upset about the end of school and how much she'll miss her teacher. Right now she's still sad that she won't be seeing Mr. Cameron every day. Hopefully she'll have a fourth grade teacher that she likes just as much. I better start praying now!!
