Seems like forever since I journaled
Not too much going on

I don't have another dr appt until next week, but I thought I'd just drop a note. Most of the news of the past month pertains to my mom. First, good stuff: we (all my sisters and myself) threw her a surprise 80th birthday party. We even put it in the newspapers (which she doesn't read) and everything, since she was a schoolteacher forever as well as a church choir conductor in about a dozen area churches since she started playing the organ for church at age 10 (I kid you not). I think we had about 60 people there, and my Sis and BIL got her to church for the surprise party. We made her tear up! We had cake, cookies, and punch. It was a night to remember. Aside from having fun celebrating my mom's long life, the party was great in the sense that it was fun putting it on with my sisters, and proved that we can work together and have a great time doing it! I haven't thrown many surprise parties, and boy they are a lot of fun!
So here's the bad stuff, and I'll spare too many details. Basically, mom has breast cancer, and has to have a mastectomy next Thursday. She found out the night before she and my sister S left for Hawaii (another bday celebration). The docs think they caught it early and that she won't have to have any further treatment beyond surgery, but there is a chance she will. I truly do think they caught it early, and we're all optimistic that she's going to be fine. Hopefully this will all soon be in our rear view mirror.
Meanwhile, things are going great with CC. She's such a good kid, having lots of fun on her new playhouse/swingset that we had put up for her. We got the sandbox part put in yesterday and she had a lot of fun with it. We're going to cool it with potty training until summer. She was getting so she was holding it nearly all day at K's house, and that just isn't healthy. Although last night, she started to pee in the tub (she was standing, which is the only reason I even knew), and I whisked her onto the toilet and made a big deal about how wonderful it was. She looked a little unsure. I'm hoping that once the baby comes in September, she'll want to differentiate herself from the little baby and put diapers behind her. Diapers don't bother me in the slightest, it's not as if I'm dying to get her out of them before the new baby comes. I just want what's best for her, don't want to rush her, but don't want to neglect her natural development either. Why is this such a mystery to me? I suppose we should have her potty seat out all the time so she can take the opportunity when she wants to. Right now, we're providing no easy alternative for her (other than announcing to us that she wants to use the toilet, which isn't as spontaneous or convenient).
That's about all from here, I'm just happy that spring has arrived! Baby is kicking quite a bit, and I'm feeling great, although I've had a couple episodes when I haven't eaten enough and I've started to crash. I think my weight is around 160, so I'm pretty close to where I was last time, even though I started 13 pounds heavier. I hope that I don't exceed 185 (I was 187 last time). I'm 21 weeks, so I have a (hot long summer) ways to go!
Thanks to all who congratulated me on the news that we're having a boy! Yay! My first foray into buying boys clothes last Saturday at a garage sale. I have to tell you, it was WEIRD!
